2019 Fic Summary

An actual full year of being in a fic-writing mood, which is a first for me. I continue to thank the fortuitous mid-2018 timing of my dabbling in fic again coinciding with my friend's recommendation for Starship Iris, haha. And exchanges, exchanges are very motivating.

AO3 + Tumblr Ficlets word count: 55,655
AO3 word count: 36,343
Tumblr Ficlets word count: 19,312

No. of AO3 works posted: 7
No. of Tumblr Ficlets posted: 38

Now for some self-indulgent listing by fandom.

The Strange Case of Starship Iris

The Smuggler's Guide To Breaking In A New Ship, T, 7700 words. Sana-focused gen about life on the ship after the S1 finale. It was actually kinda cool writing this much from Sana's PoV as...exhausting as I found it compared to the other PoVs I wrote a lot of this year. Also the most popular fic I wrote this year, because post-finale timing.

No Bold Moves, T, 15,500 words. Violet/Arkady fake-dating for the Fandom 5K exchange. My favourite fic I wrote this year, because there were so many small moments in I wrote that I thought worked well, and I'd been thinking about fake-dating for these two forever.

let my mouth taste like carrion, not yours, E, 5100 words. Arkady/Sana, where they run into one of Arkady's older sister, and a not great conversation ensues. The most nerve-wracking fic I wrote this year because 1. I hadn't posted explicit fic in namespace before 2. I came up with a random relative and made up appropriate backstory 3. It was an exchange treat. Thankfully, it turned out pretty okay. :)

Technical Difficulties, M, 3300 words. Violet/Arkady, but mostly about Arkady running into the most annoying/ridiculous technical problems, because her life's just like this. My Yuletide assignment. Rated M solely so I could be funny in the first section, but hey, it means jaggedwolf's now covered all four rating categories, which is new.

I also wrote a ton of ficlets this year, 31. My current favourite is someone seeing scars you didn't want them to see, because Agent Park went from random secondary character to my fourth-favorite character and I'm still not sure how it happened.

Critical Role

Solely ficlet-land this year. I've been in an odd mood with Critical Role this year, where while I have plenty of shippy feelings, it's pretty sated by the show, fanart and reading the occasional fic. I've felt very little urge to write shippy fic. I keep having gen fic ideas though.

Dragon Age

old practices, G, 1000 words. F!Hawke & Bethany fic. Hawke is one my all-time video-game fics, so it was awesome to get the chance to write from her perspective, and cover a quiet moment between the two of them.

My word count spreadsheet says I wrote a total of 89,698 words throughout the year, which is higher than I expected, honestly. I think my 2020 goal is to write more fic that ends up on AO3, as satisfying as the quick ficlets are.
