Yuletide 2019 Letter
AO3 username: jaggedwolf
Thanks for reading my letter! I have a little about what I like for each requested group below, along with some prompts, but if you already have something in mind feel free to go for it. My tumblr is also jaggedwolf. I would equally enjoy gen or ship fic - for each fandom, I've listed the ships I enjoy, if shipfic is something you find yourself interested in writing.
For all my requested fandoms, I really am interested in a wide range of genres (from small moments between characters to casefic to sitcom-y shenanigans, etc.) and a wide range of moods (from angst to fluff to hurt/comfort, etc.) I've tried to give prompts that cover that range, but don't take a lack of a relevant prompt for that fandom as a lack of interest.
General likes: Canonverse fic, non-mundane AUs, hurt/comfort, whump, loyalty kink, characters risking themselves for each other, characters hiding their physical/emotional hurts, seemingly unrequited pining, quiet moments, found family, butch female characters, holiday themes, friends to lovers, fake/pretend relationships, banter.
Assume that for any of my liked ships/friendships, I am completely here for hurt/comfort of the sort where one person is hurt to the point of being a little insensible and trying to push past it, and the other(s) find them and help them.
DNWs: Unrequested non-canonical m/f, m/f shipfic, requested characters dying, noncon, trans headcanons, underage (<16), discussions of asexuality, infidelity, gore, unhappy endings (hopeful open endings in a dark context are fine)
Miss Sherlock
Sherlock, Wato
Ships I enjoy: Sherlock/Wato
A Japanese HBO mini-series Sherlock Holmes adaptation. If you can't find a way to watch it legally in your country, this post has links to the episodes.
Having a female Sherlock with a female Wato was everything I was waiting for. I adore the physicality of Sherlock in this adaptation, her little twitches and ticks. She's brusque as hell and always thinking but weirdly joyful about her work with a morality of her own. Wato is vulnerable in a number of ways, but it's lovely to see her core of stubbornness that translates to sticking by Sherlock's cases and then committing to killing Sherlock when brainwashed, and how into helping solving these cases she becomes. Also, just everything about that scene where Sherlock walks up to Wato on the roof and says "I'd rather you shoot me than anyone else" hit 34562 of my ids. It's part of her plan, but it feels like the truth too.
Prompts
- Their first Christmas together - Wato getting Sherlock to celebrate with her even though the latter thinks it pointless, gifts getting traded, etc. On a shippy note, I believe Christmas Eve in Japan is often thought of as a day for couples to spend together.
- The reunion that the end of the finale teased. Does Sherlock really just show up on that bridge next to Wato? Does Wato react with anger or guilt or some other emotion altogether? I'd love to see what them working past those rough events looks like, or even them not working past it and pretending everything is fine as they solve cases together.
- Getting together fic. There are many things that could tip them into realizing or acting on feelings for each other. Does Mrs Hatano or Kento play a role? Do they get mistaken for a couple in some strange circumstance - perhaps an investigation takes them to a gay bar?
- Any non-mundane AU where they retain the same dynamic and kinds of professions
- Wato pulling the trigger, (non-fatally) shooting Sherlock, and that knocking her out of her brainwashing.
The Strange Case of Starship Iris
Violet Liu, Arkady Patel, Sana Tripathi
Ships I enjoy: Literally every pairing possible from these three, and all three of them together
Canon-specific DNW: Arkady wearing a dress,
A space opera podcast about the crew of a small smuggling ship finding themselves unraveling a government conspiracy. Found family feels, romance and purple aliens abound. There is a single season of 10 ~35 minute long episodes out, accessible wherever one can find podcasts. The transcripts for the first eight episodes can be found here, with the ones for the last two episodes here and here.
FWIW, I'd be happy with fic about any subset of these three. If Violet/Arkady aren't (or on their way to being) together in the fic, I'd rather they have just never been together instead of any mentions of a breakup or one-sided interest.
Now, while I adore everyone on this show, I especially adore these three characters! Arkady's very good at the three things she mentions (hacking, lying, fighting) but a bit of a disaster at regular social interaction, protective of the crew as irreverent as she acts and fond of stories that have big happy endings, because life doesn't work that way. Violet's so persistent through the chaos of her upended her life - she expects the worst but forces herself not to flinch away as anxious as she is, and comes to feel at home with the crew. Sana's a captain who believes in consensus and doing the right thing, but there's steel to her, and I still think about her monologue where she makes it clear that her willingness to do anything for her crew is a threat, not an offer.
I think there's real potential with all three characters interacting, and the differences and similarities between them.
If you want shippy prompts, there's several in my Fandom5k letter, and I've listed more general prompts below.
Prompts
- The three of them and the rest of the crew spending a holiday together. Christmas/Lunar New Year/Deepavali/random future holiday that people on ships like to celebrate. It could be nice for them to have a quiet day where the IGR doesn't interrupt. (Other things could go wrong, of course, like, was sparklers the smartest idea on a spaceship? Did that tree catch on fire?) Does the holiday hold good/bad memories for them?
- The three of them get captured for interrogation by the IGR. Does the IGR try to use them against each other? How do they get out of this situation, or at least endure till they get rescued? Do they each, in different ways, try to keep the agents' attentions on themselves?
- Violet adapted very quickly to her new life. I love the idea that some remnants of IGR-enforced behaviour or rules still linger, unbeknownst to anyone, until some instinctive reaction betrays her. Does she even realize her behaviour is unusual/unwarranted? Which of Arkady or Sana might notice first?
- Sana and Violet both have their own strategies in dealing with Arkady's, well, frankly ridiculous behavior at times. I think it could be funny to see them team up against Arkady, or trade tips, and Arkady get very grumpy about it all.
- Arkady and Violet are roughly a decade younger than Sana, so Sana has had many more years in a pre-IGR world. What are conversations about that like? Are there things that Arkady/Violet have assumed to always been true that Sana could reveal wasn't the case? Is there anything at all about the current time, dystopian as it is, that's better than when Sana was their age?
- Canon-divergence where the Cresswin Uprising doesn't happen when it does, and adult!Violet gets arrested and sent there for some reason, thus meeting Arkady and Sana on Cresswin. How has the longer imprisonment affected Arkady and Sana? Is Violet wary of the other prisoners at first? Does the uprising happen, and what are all their roles in it?
- Violet is startlingly perceptive at times, and Sana's very good at deflecting from her personal feelings to focus on the good of the crew. I'd love to see that clash, with Violet's sort of interrogatory nature being directed at the captain.
- Violet/Arkady together and taking care of/looking out for Sana after a rough day. (Could be OT3 fic, could be simply Violet/Arkady & Sana, either would be delightful.)
We Fix Space Junk
Samantha Trapp, Kilner
Ships I enjoy: Samantha/Kilner
A sci-fi podcast that recently finished its first season. It follows seasoned smuggler Kilner and reluctant fugitive Samantha Trapp as they travel the galaxy, carrying out odd jobs to pay off an enormous debt to the Automnicon corporation, a corporation that seems to own half the galaxy.
I love the adjusting to her new reality that former heiress Samantha has to do, her moments of surprise even as she keeps rising to the occasion. Kilner is softer than I expected, every time - she's cynical and has seen a lot of shit, but she's never cruel with her words to Samantha. There's also her small moment of wonder at the Dyson sphere, despite everything that's happened to her.
These two have a great classic cynical-naive dynamic. I also like the idea of visual contrasts between them - Kilner, with so many body parts replaced and the rest of her body looking worse for wear vs Samantha whole and dazzling even after her time on the job. They work together so well, and have such clear affection for each other. There's that moment where Kilner gets sympathetic about Samantha wanting to contact her mom when they both think they're about to die after the accident, there's the way Samantha never seems to doubt Kilner for a second even with Ms Lamb's insinuations about what Kilner did in her past, and how Samantha reassures Kilner when the latter panics about the meeting with Ms Lamb.
Prompts
- The two of them celebrating the winter holiday together. How does Sam think it compares to her past ones? How does Kilner?
- Sometime far in the future when they're both out of debt. What do their lives look like? What occupies most of their time?
- Samantha realizing her feelings for Kilner via jealousy, maybe from watching her talk to Jault or Ms Lamb? Maybe she assumed Kilner was straight until her history with Ms Lamb was revealed, and now she can't stop thinking about it.
- Kilner thinking Samantha's interest in her is some kind of cruel joke - she remembers Samantha's undisguised shock the first time they met - and them getting past that stumbling block.
- One of them learning the other has an unexpected skill, at either a crucial moment that saves their lives, or during a deeply mundane day that makes the surprise even funnier
- Automnicon trying to pit them against each other
