From here,
nanoeggroll asked me what I hope to see from the teased Mass Effect continuation.
Ha, there's the things I dearly want and the things I expect and the very small intersection of the two. Things in the last category include Shepard figuring into the story somehow, whether playable or being immediately relevant to the story. (Though even then I'm torn - I think Bioware could have a lot of fun with say, a turian PC, but that's not nearly as safe a bet as sticking with humans.) I hope we get to see more of the squadmates from the original trilogy and what they're up to.
If Shepard isn't the protagonist, I hope we get one whose motivations and power match the story being told - more Hawkes, less Inquisitors or Ryders. I adore Ryder! But she would've been better served by a different story.
Things I would very much like but don't expect to see: fuck Bioware's attempt open world, can we get a cohesive story and strong locations and environments? I remembered very few places in Inquisition and Andromeda the way I do Ilos or Illium or the Citadel. I don't expect to see this because Inquisition was well-received and it looks like boring open world is here to stay. I hope they get better at weaving companion quests with the plot and open world.
I would like for them to just pick an ending from the trilogy and go with it, instead of trying to retain any ambiguity there. Piss off whoever you have to craft a focused story. Okay, so I guess all my hopes boil down to: I would like Bioware to be good at meshing story and characters together again, thanks.
