Thanks for reading my letter! I have a little about what I like about each requested character/group below, along with some prompts, but if you already have something in mind for the tags we matched on, feel free to go for it. I am equally happy with genfic or shipfic, and have listed any ships of interest in each section. My tumblr is also jaggedwolf
I have a general likes section for each fandom that indicate the range of fic I’m interested in - don’t take a lack of specific prompts for lack of interest :D
DNWs: Noncon, actually unrequited pining, infidelity, requested characters permanently dying, requested characters breaking up with each other, unrequested non-canonical f/m with requested characters, unhappy endings (hopeful open endings in dark contexts are fine)
Kinky Boots - Lauper/Fierstein
Charlie Price, Lola
Ships I enjoy: Charlie/Lola
A musical about a guy saving his dead dad’s shoe factory business by making high-heels for drag queens. It’s a fun, earnest, big-hearted production with catchy music.
I saw this last year and adored it - Charlie’s uncertainty as he attempts to do right by his dad’s legacy and the pitfalls he falls into, Lola’s forthrightness, strength and refusal to be smaller, and the way their lives unexpectedly intersect. I love their shared moment of vulnerability in “Not My Father’s Son”, and yet also the awful moment where Lola was on some level prepared for Charlie reaching for the easiest hurtful things to say when stressed.
Their reconciliation made me happy, but I still can’t believe they didn’t kiss! The Lola in the production I saw was noticeably taller than Charlie (even out of heels), and I was also a fan of that. If you choose to write Charlie/Lola shipfic, please either have Lauren and Charlie be amicably broken up or write them as never having feelings for each other - I found Lauren pretty endearing. I’m of course equally happy with Charlie & Lola hanging out as friends.
General Likes: Pining, competence, holiday theme, teamwork, hurt/comfort, found family, characters hiding physical/emotional hurts, fake dating, casual touches, banter, humor, friends-to-lovers, unexpected kindness
Prompts
- Spending the holidays together! Whether it’s the two of them or the entire shoe factory and all the angels having a winter party of some kind
- Lola teaching Charlie the basics of boxing could be fun. Lola clearly keeps in practice, given how the match with Don goes.
- Charlie showing Lola other parts of his hometown, or Lola showing Charlie parts of London he’s never been to. Charlie apologizing in-person after the Milan show
Miss Sherlock
Sherlock, Tachibana Wato
Ships I enjoy: Sherlock/Wato
A Japanese HBO mini-series Sherlock Holmes adaptation, where Sherlock and Watson are both women. If you can't find a way to watch it legally in your country, this post has links to the episodes.
I adore the physicality of Sherlock in this adaptation with all her little twitches and ticks. She's brusque as hell and always thinking but weirdly joyful about her work and guided by her own morality. Wato is vulnerable in a number of ways, but it's lovely to see her core of stubbornness that translates both to sticking by Sherlock's cases and to committing to killing Sherlock when brainwashed. As with any Holmes adaptation, watching the two of them get used to each other and Wato getting invested in the cases is a big part of the appeal.
Also, everything about that scene where Sherlock walks up to Wato on the roof and says "I'd rather you shoot me than anyone else" hits my ids. It's part of her plan, but it feels like the truth too.
I enjoy the side-characters like Sherlock’s brother, Mrs Hatano and the police officers too, so feel free to include them.
General Likes: Pining, competence, teamwork, friendship, whump, hurt/comfort, found family, characters hiding physical/emotional hurts, fake dating, casual touches, friends-to-lovers, unexpected kindness
Prompts
- Their first Christmas together - Wato getting Sherlock to celebrate with her even though the latter thinks it pointless, gifts getting traded, etc. On a shippy note, I believe Christmas Eve in Japan is often thought of as a day for couples to spend together.
- The reunion teased at the end of the finale. Does Sherlock really just show up on that bridge next to Wato? Does Wato react with anger or guilt or some other emotion altogether? I'd love to see what them working past those rough events looks like, or even them not working past it and pretending everything is fine as they solve cases together.
- Getting together fic. There are many things that could tip them into realizing or acting on feelings for each other. * Does Mrs Hatano or Kento play a role? Do they get mistaken for a couple in some strange circumstance - perhaps an investigation takes them to a gay bar?
- Any non-mundane AU where they retain the same dynamic and kinds of professions. Cyberpunk, space stations, magical realism, daemons, etc.
- Wato pulling the trigger, (non-fatally) shooting Sherlock, and that knocking her out of her brainwashing.
The Axiom Series - Tim Pratt
Callie Machado, Elena Oh
Ships I enjoy: Callie/Elena
This book trilogy’s a space opera/adventure following a small crew with a found family vibe who stumble across an interstellar threat humanity had no clue about, and a charming f/f relationship for the leads. It features one of my all-time favorite alien species. The first book’s pretty self-contained, and I’d be happy with fic that jumps off from any point during the series. (My prompts might have spoilers for later books)
I like the entire crew but have a soft spot for these two. Callie’s delightfully grumpy and has a hard-on for justice, and is so used to and trusting of her crew. Love seeing her outsmart, outfight and outbullshit her opponents. Elena’s fascination and cleverness in the face of the future is wonderful to see, and I love her insistence on being a part of the adventure. They make the best chaotic girlfriends, whether it’s crashing funerals, plotting against the baddies, or being horny over public comm channels.
If you end up writing something set after the third book, I’d prefer what happens to Ashok to be completely ignored as if it didn’t happen, with him at most getting injured and needing to recover.
General Likes: Competence, teamwork, whump, hurt/comfort, friendship, found family, characters hiding physical/emotional hurt, casual touches, friends-to-lovers, unexpected kindness, banter
Prompts
- The White Raven crew spending a holiday together. I love all the friendships here too, especially Elena’s with Lantern and Callie’s with Ashok, Stephen and Shall.
- I’d be down for something smutty for Callie/Elena - the books give plenty of fodder for that, between their self-described interests in bondage and roleplay, and the opportunities offered by low ship gravity and sci-fi tech
- Elena learning more about the future and its norms, and maybe even surprising Callie with things she didn’t know Callie and Elena having to get out of a dangerous situation alone. Maybe they’re infiltrating an Axiom base and get separated from the others, or maybe some pirates want revenge/foolishly think they’re easy
- [Book 3 spoilers] Callie adjusting to life as a head-of-state, and Elena’s role in that
The Half Of It
Ellie Chu, Aster Flores
Ships I’d be down to see: Ellie/Aster, Ellie/OFC, Aster/OFC
A film by Alice Wu, who’s known for her first film Saving Face. This queer high-school version of the Cyrano story stars Ellie, an isolated figure who gets asked by a football player, Paul, to help him write love letters to Aster, who Ellie also has feelings for. This coming-of-age film is very kind to everyone as they figure out who they might want to be.
Ellie was an instant fave (“Are these deciduous trees?”), and I liked seeing her repressed approach to life being disrupted by Paul and Aster, and how she has to speak up to stop the latter at the end. And that she goes for the kiss! Aster is much more of a cipher, distant and dissatisfied with her seemingly whole life until the end. Those two getting into pretentious teen conversations was endearing. I like Ellie’s dad and Paul a lot too, so please feel free to include them.
I’m less interested in any divergences from the film’s events, more interested in interludes we didn’t see or something set after the period the film covers.
General likes: Pining, competence, teamwork, found family, friendship, characters hiding physical/emotional hurts, fake dating, snowed-in together, casual touches, friends-to-lovers, unexpected kindness
Prompts
- Returning home for the holidays. I’d love Ellie and Aster hanging out (w or w/o Paul?) when back in town, a year or more into college. How have they changed, and how haven’t they?
- Ellie and Aster writing letters to each other while in college, discussing books and art and their lives. They’ve done this before, only now Aster actually knows it’s Ellie who’s writing.
- Running into each other in some other city a decade later
- I’m okay with Ellie-focused fic that doesn’t include Aster, if that’s something you’re interested in - her building up a stronger relationship with her dad, or adjusting to life at Grinnell, or keeping in touch with Paul as friends while their lives diverge
Teixcalaan Series - Arkady Martine
Mahit Dzmare, Three Seagrass
Ships I enjoy: Mahit/Three Seagrass
A space-opera novel where the new ambassador to the Teixcalaanli Empire from Lsel Station, Mahit, has to investigate the odd death of her predecessor while trying to ensure her home isn’t annexed by the growing empire. An empire whose culture and canon she adores. I enjoyed the political intrigue, the sense of fun despite the heaviness, the camaraderie of plotting together and of course, all the cultural imperialism angst that the book’s own dedication aptly describes: to anyone who has ever fallen in love with a culture that was devouring their own.
I love how Mahit negotiates that, trying (and failing) to limit her feelings for Three Seagrass and Twelve Azalea to that of mere allies so she won’t get hurt, her conversations with Yskandr and how she improvs her way through the chaos of the book’s events. I love how easily Three Seagrass goes along with those plays, and is embarrassingly interested in “aliens” but also is just plain fond of Mahit, anyway, and the messiness of that, and how it made the ending separation between the two feel rather natural.
I also like that they both went through most of the book in firm denial that any flirting was happening because they were only talking about poetry, pffft.
General Likes: Worldbuilding, pining, competence, teamwork, whump, friendship, hurt/comfort, found family, characters hiding physical/emotional hurts, fake dating, casual touches, friends-to-lovers, unexpected kindness
Prompts
- Anything with Three Seagrass learning about Lsel Station culture in turn. Maybe she’s sent there for some political reason and Mahit has to show her around, hell, maybe Three Seagrass is just plain curious after a week of Lsel-related adventures
- A slower-paced interlude between the book’s big events - chatting during the party, hanging out with Twelve Azalea, resting after the surgery, mourning for Twelve Azalea
- Mahit and Three Seagrass keeping in touch via letters (or you know, the equivalent)
The Strange Case Of Starship Iris
Violet Liu, Arkady Patel, Sana Tripathi
Ships I enjoy: Violet/Arkady, Arkady/Sana, Violet/Arkady/Sana
Canon-specific DNW: Use of the actors’ names as aliases in the fic, Arkady in a dress
A space opera podcast about the crew of a small smuggling ship finding themselves unraveling a government conspiracy. Found family feels, romance and purple aliens abound. There is a single season of 10 ~35 minute long episodes and one minisode out, accessible wherever one can find podcasts. The transcripts are here.
FWIW, I'd be happy with fic about any subset of these three. If Violet/Arkady aren't (or on their way to being) together in the fic, I'd rather they were never together instead of any mentions of a breakup or one-sided interest.
While I adore everyone on this show, I especially adore these three characters! Arkady's very good at the three things she mentions (hacking, lying, fighting) but a bit of a disaster at regular social interaction, protective of the crew as irreverent as she acts and fond of stories that have big happy endings, because life doesn't work that way. Violet's so persistent through the chaos of her upended her life - she expects the worst but forces herself not to flinch away as anxious as she is, and comes to feel at home with the crew. Sana's a captain who believes in consensus and doing the right thing, but there's steel to her, and I still think about her monologue where she makes it clear that her willingness to do anything for her crew is a threat, not an offer.
General Likes: Canonverse fic, canon-divergence, non-mundane AUs, pining, competence, teamwork, freindship, loyalty kink, combat, casefic, heists, whump, hurt/comfort, found family, hiding physical/emotional hurts, being good to each other in unfair circumstances, fake dating, casual touches, friends-to-lovers, unexpected kindness, butch female characters
If you want more prompts, there's several in my Fandom5k letter, and I've listed more general prompts below.
Prompts
- The three of them and the rest of the crew spending a holiday together. It could be nice for them to have a quiet day where the IGR doesn't interrupt. Does the holiday hold good/bad memories for them?
- The three of them get captured by some baddies. Do their enemies try to use them against each other? How do they get out of this situation, or at least endure till they get rescued? Do they each, in different ways, try to keep the agents' attentions on themselves?
- Violet adapted very quickly to her new life. I love the idea that some remnants of IGR-enforced behaviour or rules still linger, unbeknownst to anyone, until some instinctive reaction betrays her. Does she even realize her behaviour is unusual/unwarranted?
- Sana and Violet both have their own strategies in dealing with Arkady's, well, frankly ridiculous behavior at times. I think it could be funny to see them team up against Arkady, or trade tips, and Arkady get very grumpy about it all.
- Canon-divergence where the Cresswin Uprising doesn't happen when it does, and adult!Violet gets arrested and sent there for some reason, thus meeting Arkady and Sana on Cresswin. How has the longer imprisonment affected Arkady and Sana? Is Violet wary of the other prisoners at first? Does the uprising happen, and what are all their roles in it?
- Violet is startlingly perceptive at times, and Sana's very good at deflecting from her personal feelings to focus on the good of the crew. I'd love to see that clash, with Violet's sort of interrogatory nature being directed at the captain.
