The Strange Case Of Starship Iris

A space opera podcast about government conspiracies and the crew of a small smuggling ship that is ten different kinds of illegal. There are eight 40-minute episodes out, accessible anywhere one listens to podcasts. There are transcripts here.

Ships I enjoy: Arkady/Violet

I am happy with fic that focuses on any subset of these three, and feel free to include Brian and Krejjh. <3. I am also guaranteed to listen to episodes as soon as they come out, so if we get lucky and more episodes are released between now and whenever you write the fic, feel free to incorporate details from those episodes. Also feel no obligation to.

I adore everyone on this show, but I especially adore these three! I love how Arkady is clearly very good at the three things she mentions (hacking, fighting, lying), but kind of a disaster at regular human interaction, her protectiveness of the crew even as she acts irreverent and her fondness for opera because you get to know whether it's a comedy or a tragedy beforehand. I love how Violet keeps pressing through sincerely all this chaos that's been upending her life, as anxious as she is about it, and love her slowly coming to feel at home with the crew. I love how Sana's a genuinely good and caring captain with a firm core to her, everything about her being unwilling to risk her crew and how that makes her a threat.

General Prompts

• Anything with the three of them isolated from the rest of the crew - maybe they got kidnapped, maybe they need to run a mission together, maybe Brian and Krejjh are taking a few days off, who knows. I just think it's a trio that hasn't had many scenes in canon, and it'd be interesting to see all of them bounce off each other.
• Camp Counselor AU! Sana is head camp counselor and trying to keep things together, Arkady is that counselor all the older kids think is super cool, Violet is the new counselor/medic who literally has never gone to summer camp before.
• Some subset of the crew gets kidnapped by the IGR/Dwarnian government/random mercs, and the rest of them execute a rescue mission.
• Christmas (or any winter gift-giving ) on the Rumor! Do they do Secret Santa, how much do people panic about presents, the usual shenanigans? Does it bring up melancholy feelings for anyone, given how little we know of any of their families other than Violet's and Krejjh's?

Arkady/Violet Prompts

I enjoy how Violet's weird sincerity keeps throwing Arkady off-balance, them talking each other through things, how impressed they are with each other's competencies, Violet's clear fondness for Arkady. I also love how they misunderstand each other and have to work through things in conversation to get each other's meaning sometimes.

• In combination with any of the above general prompts, them getting together or in an established relationship is good with me
• Fake dating for a mission! With the rest of the team on comms trying to make sure they're selling this well, both of them being awkward as hell, the classic fakeout makeouts when they have to stay in cover, all that fun jazz
• If you did want to write something explicit, I also think they're a great pair for sex pollen + seemingly unrequited pining, because both of them would undoubtedly feel guilty for overstepping afterwards though neither would think of the other as doing so, and then convince themselves that it only happened out of necessity. And then resolving those messy feelings.
• Both of them pushing off thinking about their feelings towards each other because more IGR shit keeps cropping up, until something happens that forces them to deal with it.

Sana & Arkady Prompts

God, I love how much history there is between them, the sincerity with which Sana calls Arkady her best friend and depends on her even as she worries about having her do the dirty work, how clearly Arkady believes in what she says about taking a bullet for Sana being the best thing she could do for her life and the way she says "I knew her. She didn't know me" about their time in Cresswin.

• Anything set in the timeframe when it was only the two of them (+ temp hires?) on the ship - them getting to know each other as people and realizing how much they can rely each other, sure, but also how much they like each other.
• Corollary to the crew kidnapping prompt above: For whatever reason, the kidnappers think Sana is on their side, and want her to prove her loyalty by roughing up one of the other kidnapped crew. Arkady, of course, makes sure that person is her. Guilty Sana once they're all free, but an Arkady who is completely blase about the whole thing.
• 14 year old Arkady's thoughts on and interactions with the 24 year old Sana she sees on Cresswin's Landing. I mean, kid!Arkady probably thought she'd grow up and die on the prison planet, so Sana being even slightly responsible for that not happening must mean a lot to her

Violet & Sana Prompts

Violet hasn't interacted as much with the dear old captain compared to everyone else, but I think there's a lot to play off here - the obvious connection is Arkady, but they're also both pretty earnest in conversation, and experienced with dealing with IGR bureaucracy.

• Violet following through on that hypothetical she posed to Arkady and asking Sana why Sana thinks Arkady has stuck around so long, if she isn't here for Sana's mission.
• Violet finding out what Sana got arrested for

Heaven Will Be Mine

A visual novel that's a spiritual successor to We Know The Devil, where three girls pilot mechas in space for opposing factions, flirt with each other and the subtext is text. It's available on Steam.

Ships I enjoy: Literally any combination of these four

I adore the style of the writing in the game, but don't feel any need to imitate that if you're not feeling it! I love the way it expands on themes present in WKTD, of all these girls who know/feel they have power that isn't theirs to use but they'll use it anyway to shape the world in what little way they can. My preferred endings are the Memorial Foundation and Cradle's Graces ones. None of these prompts are particularly shippy, but I definitely would enjoy shipfic for this fandom. :)

Prompts

• Mars in either the MF or CG ending. How is she adapting to this new world the other three have formed, and how does it affect her relationships with the other three? Luna-Terra is on the same side again, and I'm sure that dredges up some feelings for her
• Luna-Terra and Pluto and Mars, before Luna-Terra's betrayal of CG, what was it like?
• MF ending: Do they miss their ship selves, impossibly big, or is it a relief to be free of that terrible burden? Potentially different opinions between the three of them
• Mars and Saturn meeting - I might be remembering wrong, but I don't they've ever before, so in the aftermath of the pilot's choice, that could be interesting

Miss Sherlock

A Japanese HBO mini-series Sherlock Holmes adaptation. If you can't find a way to watch it legally in your country, this post has links to the episodes.

Ships I enjoy: Sherlock/Wato

Having a female Sherlock with a female Wato is indeed what I was waiting for. I adore the physicality of Sherlock in this adaptation, her little twitches and ticks. She's brusque as hell and always thinking but weirdly joyful about her work and a morality of her own I adore Wato being soft in a lot of ways but also with a core of stubbornness that translates to sticking by Sherlock's cases and then committing to killing Sherlock when brainwashed, and how into helping solving these cases she becomes. Also, just everything about that scene where Sherlock walks up to Wato on the roof and says "I'd rather you shoot me than anyone else" hit 34562 of my ids.

Prompts

• The reunion!! The show teased it, but does Sherlock really just show up next to Wato on that bridge? How does Wato take it - is she filled with anger or guilt or something else all together at everything that transpired?
• Getting together fic - what would tip these silly kids into realizing they actually have feelings for each other? Perhaps Mrs Hatano or Kento play a role, or someone mistakes them as a couple for some reason. (A case takes them to one of the few gay bars in Tokyo for some reason, heh?)
• Christmas! Wato dragging Sherlock into celebrating even though she thinks it's pointless, gifts traded, all that good stuff
• Any non-mundane AU, as long as Sherlock and Wato are still solving cases

Bend It Like Beckham

A movie about Jess Bhamra, who's really good at soccer but her strict Indian parents don't approve of her joining an organized team - Jules sees her play in the park one day, convinces her to play for her club, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Characters nominated: Jess, Jules

Ships I enjoy: Jess/Jules Like every other person that watched this movie, I definitely think these two should have gotten together at the end. I love everything about their dynamic - the way Jess is so used to Not Wanting certain things, and how Jules breaks her out of it by how openly she wants things. The way they really do want the best for each other, and how good a pair they are in the field.

Prompts

• The classic request of these getting together while going to college in Santa Clara. Ignore Joe or have him and Jess breakup before the fic, it doesn't really matter to me.
• The two of them end up having to stay in college over winter break between the athlete training schedules and the cost of airplane tickets, maybe, and there aren't that many other students around then, so they end up spending Christmas together.
• Canon divergence where the conflict in the film that's about Joe doesn't happen, instead it's about them having feelings for each other and just doing a bad job of dealing with it, both of them really worried it might affect their play in the field or something
• They're going to college in America so.... road trip during a rare break they don't have training sessions scheduled in!!
• An AU where they're playing some other sport, mundane or otherwise! Sky's the limit, as long as they're still teammates when it comes down to it.
