Late bc my life got taken over by: the Survivor finale, getting so obsessed with Arcane that I tripped into a new medium, and booster shot side-effects.
something regarding your experience with live vs recorded performances of plays/theatre (via flowersforgraves)
Hmm, this is a good one.
For me the main difference between recorded vs live is the pros being "obsession" vs "overriding the flinch instinct". I have a shit visual memory, so if I don't have a recording to re-watch I'm less likely to fall into obsession. I'll remember if it's good, if I'm smart I'll have jotted down specific things I liked seeing, but otherwise it's all lost to me. Can always go back with recordings, nothing's truly missed.
With live, well. I'm a flincher by instinct, always happy to take the option of flight, pausing/muting/skipping a bit when audiovisual media hits my threshold of uncomfortableness or self-consciousness. Which isn't wrong exactly, but there's something to be said about the immediacy and inescapability of live theatre. It's happening right now, can't do shit about it. Bit of a healthy change for me.
I seemed to have lost my attention span for watching new-to-me recorded performances though. Last time I got through one was Indecent, which was very good and also years ago lol. I don't really mind - I lean heavily towards watching live, given how accessible that is for me now, and I have plenty of other media types to consume from the comfort of my computer.
