December Talking Meme: Day 22

jaggedwolfFor this day, smellslikefudge asked me to talk about workaholism in NCIS: Hawai'i.
Everyone being workaholics explains why their only friends are each other because they don't do anything else. The one exception might be Ernie who has multiple socializing extracurriculars (art class, yoga class). Kai also has many random hobbies - antiquing, surfing, Nora Ephron movies apparently - but I'm convinced he does them all solo and prefers it that way.
We've discussed this before but it is my firm belief that Lucy is more of a workaholic than Whistler. She literally says her life is just work, gym (for work) and Whistler, meanwhile Whistler has actual hobbies, with times no one from work can reach her and for a supposedly career-minded person working in the federal government made the bizarre decision to move out of DC?? to Hawaii??? Whistler works hard while on the clock but otherwise isn't obsessed meanwhile Lucy will think about cases even in her off-hours to the point that she makes references to them in personal conversations like in that breakup scene LOL.
...Also Lucy probably procrastinates on paperwork and ends up staying late to do it sometimes. Has that vibe.
Hmm, do I have a full ordering of workaholism in this cast? Here is an initial attempt, from most to least.
1. Lucy. I'd say get a hobby but she's on a boat for 4-6 months so I guess it's good she has nothing she's forced to take a break from other than her friends and girlfriend?
2. Kai. I know, I know, he has a mysterious and full out-of-work life but he is also the guy who is like hm I'm waiting for a call from a witness what if I just hung around the office for another hour except he blinks and it's gone from 6pm to 9pm and he is like ??? This is what happens when he no longer has a dog in his apartment waiting to be walked/fed.
3. Whistler. Changes out of work clothes as soon as she gets home. Honestly could be a little more workaholic in terms of practicing not getting her ass kicked in the field okay
4. Ernie. He did not care about getting kidnapped by a different government agency because he got to work on cool shit but isn't going to stay late at the office if nothing urgent is happening, come on.
5. Tennant. I know, overachieving SAC and everything, but 1. forcing function of children 2. unhinged decisions like flying to different countries are not in the category of "workaholism" 2. Tennant is the kind of overachiever where it looks effortless for her 4. everyone else depends on her having her head straight she's not gonna be silly and overwork for no reason
6. Jesse. This dude is a family dude and not looking to climb the career ladder at all, probably content to chill where he's at forever.
