Man, TSCOSI is one of those canons where the distance between my faves is pretty small. I love pretty much everyone in this bar, including the baddies. But you know, I am incredibly predictable, and so while Violet and Sana continually vie for second place, Arkady Patel is 100% my favourite character on the show.
What a mix of traits I adore. The snark, the throwing herself first in the line of fire, the hacker-muscle combo, the loyalty kink, that brand of cynicism that comes from a barely concealed conviction that the world could be better in a lot of ways and an awareness of what was denied to her. I enjoy that she's also the face (seriously, she's like 3/4 of a heist team on her own) and so good at lying for cons...but so, so terribly transparent in a personal context, even to Violet who joined the crew five seconds ago.
She's like a sullen kid at show-and-tell that still ends up sharing the most out of anyone - pretends she doesn't have moral lines to be crossed, gets pissed as soon as Violet says something justifying IGR behavior; doesn't even bother denying to Sana that doing the scummy stuff gets to her; goes brooding in the vents and ends up having a feelings session with Krejjh anyway. And yeah, I'm pretty here for how messed up she is about the blood on her hands while convinced better hers than anyone else's, and that kind of solidarity-like feeling she seems to have for the IGR grunts.
Um, she's also the Rumor crew character whose relationship with all of the other crew members is distinct and compelling, which makes her pretty fun to write fic for. Especially since the entire crew is on Team Arkady Please Talk About Your Feelings. I am most fond of her relationships with Violet and Sana. (Again, predictable).
I like the way Arkady and Violet verbally clash, knocking each other off balance to reach an understanding, that Arkady gets, just, utterly ridiculous around Violet ("just doing my job ma'am"/"are you mad at me for getting shot"/dating in the romantic sense"???), and the way Arkady keeps poking holes in Violet's incredibly low expectations.
Arkady and Sana are the best mix of loyalty kink and friendship - the bullet line was what sealed Arkady being my fave - and I love the history they have with Cresswin. They are so fond and teasing with each other, with such different worldviews, and I love how much Arkady's loyalty is a mixture of Sana's own actions, Sana herself and what Sana stands for, if that makes any sense.
Finally, the show clearly knows what a good whump candidate she is, thank you finale gunshot scene.

I requested TSCOSI in an exchange yesterday and just for curiosity clicked through to see what fic there was for this OT3 and was delighted to see there are four of them! (One written by you!!) so I’ll be checking that out soon. I realize now that I’ve finished, asking about a favorite character was clearly a request from someone one episode in, but I still enjoyed this so much. I’m super here for that loyalty kink + friendship between Arkady%Sana! I love the shared history. I love how much Krejjh says “Crewman Jeeter” over the ship wide comm. Their established relationship as a constant is nice in the same way Arkady and Sana have extensive shared history. Krejjh telling Arkady to show Violet her herbs is just so perfect, and it worked and Krejjh is very “I’m great at romancing humans” and their levity was a real bright spot when the story got intense.
So! Thank you for aggressively reccing this - it stayed in my brain and I was able to consume it at what turned out to be just the right time. Now: the bounty of fic that exists. ♥
